SAFECARE Industrial Cleaners, Solvents, and Specialty Products

Industrial Cleaners, Solvents & Specialty Products

SAFE CARE Industrial Cleaners, Solvents and Specialty ProductsThe high performance technology of the SAFE CARE cleaners, solvents and specialty products provides our customers with effective cleaning solutions without the environmental or personal hazards associated with traditional toxic chemistries. SAFE CARE products are proprietary compounds of plant-based linear alcohols, fatty acids, esters, and other fractions derived primarily from soy, corn, sunflower, and Canola. The SAFE CARE aqueous cleaners are among the most versatile and powerful surfactant systems in the industry today. These surfactants, when placed in water, form extremely powerful colloidal micelle solutions. Long-chain hydrocarbon soils such as fats, greases, oils, lipids, proteins and sugars virtually lift from the cleaning surface so that they can be rinsed away with water. Unlike caustics, metasilicates and other salt-based cleaners, SAFE CARE products will not create difficult to handle emulsions or damage the cleaning surface. GEMTEK provides the necessary product information, test data, product application training and on-going customer service that assures performance satisfaction.

SAFELUBE Industrial Lubricants and Metalworking Fluids
Industrial Lubricants & Metalworking Fluids

SAFE LUBE Industrial Lubricants and Metalworking FluidsThe new SAFE LUBE product formulations rely on state-of-the-art botanical additives and vegetable base oils to create safe and effective lubricants and metalworking fluids. SAFE LUBE products rely upon the proven advantages of fatty acid esters mixed with degummed soy or Canola base oils. With zero hydrocarbon or metal additives, SAFE LUBE has superior lubricants which can replace petroleum or synthetic products in virtually any application without changing equipment or procedures. The key advantages of using SAFE LUBE products, such as the SL-Hydraulic Fluid are improved life cycle maintenance of equipment, parts and surfaces.

SAFE LUBE metalworking fluids replace the need to use traditional chlorine, sulfur or other extreme-pressure additives. SAFE LUBE metalworking fluids utilize a unique reaction of 100% botanical components, which provide as good or better performance than extreme-pressure wear loss additives. Further, the new metalworking fluids are 100% water-soluble (no emulsifiers) and resolve most cleaning problems without forming tacky films or waste problems. The development of these new botanical additives allows SAFE LUBE to formulate "load carrying" capability into individual products for specific applications while optimizing performance at higher and lower operating temperatures on all machine, tool and equipment surfaces.

GEMTEK
sets the Gold Standard for producing Green products that are safe for people and the environment...

GEMTEK Products are:

  • Non-toxic
  • Non-carcinogenic
  • Readily biodegradable
  • Derived from renewable resources
  • Safe to use, store and dispose of
A Naturally Renewable Resource - Plant Based plant based materials - cotton seed, soy, peanut, palm kernel, sunflower, safflower, corn, walnut, canola

Non-toxic:
Toxic substances can be defined as those chemicals present in the workplace, which are capable of causing harm to people. In this definition, the term chemical includes dusts, mixtures, and common materials such as paints, adhesive, fuels, and solvents. OSHA currently regulates exposure to approximately 400 substances. The OSHA Chemical Sampling Information file contains listings for approximately 1,500 substances; the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA) Chemical Substances Inventory lists information on more than 62,000 chemicals or chemical substances; some libraries maintain files of material safety data sheets (MSDS) for more than 100,000 substances.

Non-carcinogenic:
Carcinogens are agents that can cause cancer. In industry, there are many potential exposures to carcinogens. Generally, workplace exposures are considered to be at higher levels than for public exposures. "Potential occupational carcinogen" means any substance, or combination or mixture of substances, which causes an increased incidence of benign and/or malignant tumors (neoplasms), or a substantial decrease in the latency period between exposure and onset of tumors in humans or in one or more experimental mammalian species as the result of any oral, respiratory or dermal exposure, or any other exposure which results in the induction of tumors at a site other than the site of administration.

Readily biodegradable:
Biodegradability is measured by the amount of time it takes for large organic molecules to break down into smaller molecules in the environment. A chemical that is readily biodegradable begins to breakdown immediately and eventually degrades into water, mineral salts, carbon dioxide and other oxides. Products that are not biodegradable may accumulate in the ecosystem and pose a potential danger of entering plant and animal tissue. Many products are touted as biodegradable and probably are, but it is the speed with which this occurs that is important. EPA standard (40 CFR part 796) states that 98% of the product must be degraded between 7 to 28 days. Products that degrade longer than 28 days pose a potential risk to the environment.

Derived from renewable resources:
GEMTEK products are derived from renewable plant-based materials from grains, nuts and seed crops. GEMTEK products do not contain petroleum distillates or synthetics including artificial foaming and thickening agents, builders, reagents, dyes or fragrances. Although some citrus-based products would be defined as biobased and safer for the environment, they are not typically safe for people. Therefore, GEMTEK products do not contain terpenes such as d-Limonene.

100 percent Bio-Based Products

Benefits of Biobased Products:

Biobased products as defined by the USDA and the Biobased Manufacturers Association rely on plant and/or animal materials; are sustainable, renewable resources; and generally do not contain toxins, synthetics or environmentally damaging materials.
  • Generally healthier and safer for the user
Manufacturers and end-users reduce regulatory problems by replacing hazardous chemicals listed by the EPA's Toxic Release Inventory. Manufacturers and end-users improve worker safety by using biobased products. Biobased produces are usually less toxic, less flammable and less corrosive than petroleum-based products.
  • Generally healthier for the environment
Using biobased products decreases the amount of upstream pollution generated from the extraction and processing of crude oil into chemicals. Most biobased products are biodegradable and safe to dispose of.
  • Reduced dependence on imported oil
Biobased products are becoming increasingly competitive with petroleum-based products. Manufacturers and end-users can also save money by avoiding special permits, compliance penalties and disposal cost.
  • Extremely helpful to the rural economy
Manufacturing biobased products stimulates rural economic development. Agricultural crops efficiently convert into higher value end-products creating greater income opportunities for farmers and rural communities.

Government Mandates:

There have been several Federal and State policy changes and procurement initiatives to encourage the use of biobased products. These changes and proposed changes inure to the benefit of GEMTEK Products, which can and will lead the way in the development, manufacturing, marketing and distribution of biobased products. Some of these policies include:

  • Executive Order 13134: "Developing and Promoting Biobased Products and Bioenergy” signed by President Clinton in 1999, encourages the expansion of the biobased product industry as a means of protecting the environment, improving rural farm economies and reducing dependence on foreign oil supplies.
  • Executive Order 13101: “Greening the Government through Waste Prevention, Recycling and Federal Acquisition”, is the first federal procurement policy to include the category “biobased products” in the definition of environmentally preferable products.
  • USDA Farm Bill Section 9002: “Revitalizing rural and farming communities by providing product manufacturing opportunities that add value to existing crops.”
  • Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) Subchapter D, Part 23: Environment Conservation, Occupational Safety, and Drug-Free Workplace - Policies:23.403 & 23.703
  • Office of Federal Procurement Policy (OFPP) Letter 92-4, Procurement of Environmentally Sound and Energy Efficient Products and Services
  • The U.S. EPA announced the phase-out of the use of methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) as a fuel additive and is encouraging the use of renewable alternatives such as ethanol.
  • California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) of 1970 with its lead agency the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD)
  • Michigan's House of Representatives adopted House Concurrent Resolution No. 34, urging state government agencies to use bio-based oils and fuels made from renewable resources such as vegetable and seed oils in fleet vehicles whenever possible.
  • In Iowa, Senate File 2185 requires state agencies to give purchasing preference to biodegradable hydraulic fluid manufactured from soybeans.

USEPA Design for the Environment Program:

When you see the Design for the Environment (DfE) logo, it means that the USEPA's DfE review team has screened each ingredient in the product for potential human health and environmental effects and that–based on currently available information, predictive models, and expert judgment–the product contains only those ingredients that pose the least concern among chemicals in their class. For example, if a DfE-recognized product contains a surfactant, then that surfactant will biodegrade readily to non-polluting byproducts; many surfactants in conventional products biodegrade slowly or biodegrade to more toxic and persistent byproducts, which threaten aquatic life.

The DfE recognizes and commends GEMTEK Products, LLC for their leadership in designing products that are good for business and for the environment! These products include the following SAFE CARE Cleaners, Solvents & Specialty Products:

  • SC-1000 Aqueous Cleaner Concentrate
  • SC-Premium Laundry Detergent
  • SC-Magic Pan Hand Dishwashing Liquid
  • SC-More Than Glass Cleaner
  • SC-EZ-Solv Safety Solvent
  • SC-Odor-Ex Odor Neutralizer
  • SC-Odor-Ex Cleaning Deodorizer
  • SC-OmniBrite Acid Cleaner
